TWO FOR TUESDAY
CROCHET & SHELLS
Well, today, this fine Tuesday -being a very busy time of year for me, I wanted to share a new project I will be starting for the winter days while hubby is watching his Super Bowl all day, etc. LOL (I always seem to want to start a new project around this time, 'cause if my favorite team isn't in the bowl--I ask now: "What is it with this new Rookie Quarterback for the D. Broncos?"--, it's a bit boring. Besides, there is way too much money wasted putting on the sports' show of shows. My humble opinion.)
Anyway, today, before I begin to start making some holiday treats that will last the month for us, without spoiling, or things I can freeze ahead of time, I'm going to show you TWO VIEWS of the one thing I want to try to make. Just hope I can find the right color I have in mind! I'm thinking a bright rich blue, or perhaps a misty lavendar...all colors for Spring. *smile*
It is labeled "advanced" for the pattern, so I will read through the directions more thoroughly before I even LOOK for thread. Just to see if I think I can understand it first. It's something totally beautiful in my estimation, and would look great with a simple pant suit of a dark color. If I choose the correct color of thread, I'd be able to wear it for casual wear with a nice pair of jeans AND going out in the evening for 'more fancy' dining.
The front and back views of my hopefully soon to be new project! It's soooooooooo, well, for lack of a better description, feminine and victorian-looking---
What's your opinion? Right now, for me it's "ACK!" I'm not sure 'bout this one...looks pretty, but still in my mind PRETTY difficult. We'll see. Then....

My second entry is a photo of some shells. When I go walking on the beach I am equipped with my always present water bottle and a cloth shoulder bag. The water? For drinking. The bag? For shells!!
If I happen to get 'lucky' I can find some unbroken shells. Ya know---The beaches on Mustang Island vehicles are allowed to traverse over, and the shells are smashed to bits. The last month or so, a new section of the beach has finally been re-opened. For a couple of years, it's been cordoned off because of the county's construction....or I should say REconstruction of Packery Channel. The redredging of the channel is finally complete and once again that section is open to the beachcombers and fishermen!! Hubby and I went there for walking last week, and tho I've still not cleaned the shells up, I was lucky enough to find two sand dollars that were whole and one that it looks like the gulls pecked at....but I never the less grabbed 'em!! And from the photo, you can see what else I found....even a coconut shell washed up!! ---hmmmm, there are no coconut palms around here....it had to have washed ashore from floating across the gulf from the Caribbean somewhere. And it's a RARE treat to find any clam shells that are larger than a half dollar in size...the ones to the right of the coconut are approximately the size of a canning jar in circumference ---AND whole!!!

That sweater thing is beautiful! I envy your ability to even attempt it. I can crochet, and I even made a scarf for DH for Christmas. And it's only a little wavy on the edges! :-)
Hunting shells is a favorite pastime whenever my family is in Florida. My grandmother alone had so many we never did figure out what to do with them all. I think they may still be in tubs out in the barn, some to think of it...
That is gorgeous but I would look horrible in it..you must have a great figure...go ahead and give it a try. I would love to see it done. I am attempting a shawl now since I gave Tootsie her afghan. I can never find WHOLE shells here in Savannah anymore. They are always cracked...you have a find there...a coconut shell WOW...Off to go take care of the babies today...SAndy
I could still do the doily part on the back but after that I'd be lost.
Beautiful and good luck with it.
More power to ya on the sweater! It's beautiful though. Great finds in the seashells. We never find any whole ones on the Outer Banks of NC. Many years ago though I did find starfish! Still have them.
Happy Tuesday.
the vest is beautiful, and so classic.
I haven't gone out for shells for awhile but this is the right time to do it with fewer tourists in the way.
The vest looks beautiful! and like hard work at the same time, I can't crochet that way.
I love to come back with some shells from the beach, yours are awsome!!!
I love your collection of shells. The clams are wonderful! I also love the way you've arrange the perfect and a wee bit damage sand dollars!
I'm not much of a crocheter, but that one looks difficult. Not impossible, just like it'd take a bit of thinking. I agree color choice would be crucial. I'm thinking that it might go pretty fast, though. Just a lot of increases and decreases where it might not be handy to do.
Oh, I think it would be lovely in lavender but beautiful in any color really!
Plus, you have a great seashell collection...how lucky of you to find so many unbroken ones. *s*
I can't wait to see your finished work...that is the pretties little vest...I wish I could do this sort of work, but I don't follow the crochet instructions well, I've only ever learned the granny square and that was after a lady sat beside me and showed me how...and the shells...I just love shells...put the lime in the coconut and shake it all togeder!!
hehe!!
:-D
Nice haul from the beach! And I don't think that little top looks too difficult ... for YOU! :-P YOU can do ANYTHING Wystful! I knOw you can!!!
The vest looks really nice! I tend to stick to afghans and doilies, though I haven't crocheted for years, because I know what you mean about tackling something too challenging! I'm sure you can do it.
In Florida on Jensen beach I have collected lots of great shells. Very pretty pink ones there. I had a ball every day going up and down the beach. I'm sure the weight of the shells I collected weighed the car down for the trip home. I ended up making picture frames and other little crafty things with them for my team members at work one year.
Dear Wystful,
That crochet vest pattern is just lovely....I used to be a huge fan of crochet, but I haven't made a thing in years. My mother taught me to both knit and crochet and I've often thought they are lost arts. I wonder if today's moms are teaching their daughters (or sons - LOL!) these lovely crafts.
I hope you'll publish a picture or two of the finished product so we can all ooh and ahhh....
Have a wonderful day,
Carol
the sweater looks hard, but beautiful. i'd like one! ;)
The sweater is gorgeous.
I am envisioning it over basic black.
I love all black, very simple, with something wonderful.
I love seashell hunting too.
Take care,
Frances
That crocheted vest looks like a challenge. Good luck.
Ooooh I just love that crochet vest but I'm glad it's you thinking of making it, not me, cuz I don't know how to crochet at all! lol Wow, I'm so amazed you would find a coconut of all things, washed ashore!! Wonder if that's one that Gilligan sent off?? lol
The crochet pattern is gorgeous!! Could I ask where you got it? Is it from one of the magazines?
The sea shell collection brings back fond memories of picking up shells along the beach at Sanibel Island with one of my best friends.
LOVE, no ADORE that back! Gorgeous! Love the shells too, since I love all things connected to the sea. Almost :-)
Warmth welcome to my Crack Me Up Party on Friday 15 dec! Prepare some joke or some fun to bring and to have FUN :-) Tell everybody to come!
Read more at my blog...
The vest is lovely! I can't crochet, so I'll be admiring yours...
I always pick up seashells, and the beach is one of my most favorite spots to go...
