Thursday's Thoughts
I thought it'd be kinda fun to do my own weekly Thursday 'meme' instead of the unbelieveably difficult Thursday Thirteen...first off, the Thursday 13 I was getting way too many hits (once, 80 or more)...I spent nearly an entire day just visiting ones who were kind enough to visit me on any particular Thursday, as I feel if someone leaves comments, I oblige them with the courtesy of visiting them. It got to be too much time-wise, and quite challenging to come up with a good and interesting subject for thirteen items on a list without being redundant week after week. So I bowed out. And I'm glad I did. (But don't get me wrong, I still enjoy reading blogs that participate in Thursday 13!!)
Anyway, my new weekly 'meme' is going to be a particular thought that has been running through my brain---hence, Thursday's Thoughts. Each week, I am going to take a subject for which I'd discuss my ponderings. So many times in my life I sit by my window and think of things. Very diversifed subjects. Many times, it's just wonderment, other times it's what I read or saw. Yet again, there are moments of life that makes me think of what it would have been if things were different at the time of that particular moment. And, if you care to join in on this idea...please, be my guest. But don't forget to let me know that you participated so I can drop by and partake in your personal whims or ideas or thoughts!!
I thought of beginning a blogroll...but again, too much time to upkeep and be proficient enough to keep every member happy. But if it goes well, I could start up a blog comment section for Thursday Thoughts where if you participate each week --we could all go sign up that we've posted a thought. Firstly, I'll see how this progresses. For now, if you wish to post a Thursday Thought...sign my comment section today and I'll be delighted to drop by and read your entry.
(also, if you'd like to join me and would like to use this graphic header you're more than welcome. Click here to save it.)
So, today, I'm gonna think aloud about the greenhouse effect, and a subject that I think is very pertinent on making the rise of burning off the earth's protective ozone layer. One idea that I've not read about from scientists' findings and I wonder just why....perhaps my thoughts on this is very far fetched because I'm no scientist by any means.
Okay...my thought is this. According to findings and research, the ozone layer is burning off at a higher rate in the last 50 years or so. Yes, they are positive it has a lot to do with exhaust from refineries, autos, buses, trucks, planes, etc. But they fail to mention what I think may be a factor, a big factor.
When you were a kid, did you ever have anyone show you what a sun ray and a magnifying glass will do to a piece of paper? If the sun's rays shine through a looking glass long enough and filters through to a piece of paper, the paper burns right? Heat. Heat rises and expands, yes? Now take into consideration the glass that is used all over the world! Thick glass, thin, reflective - mirrored window glass. Y'all have been in a room with sun shining through a glass window, and you feel warmed by the heat waves penetrating the room from the sun's heat.
Downtown Houston Texas
The more a city builds, the more heat is condensed around the area (if you've ever paid attention a large city is several degrees hotter than the wide open countryside just miles from the hub of downtown buildings, asphalt, autos, factories)---
Tampa Florida (I've read that nature's way of protection is also cloud formation--it too filters heat and sun rays. Now think about it tho. During the hottest seasons--if there is a lot of cloud-cover, isn't it hotter(muggier-more humid) for us, even with cloud cover? Why? Because the shade and protection from the sun by cloud formation is holding down the heat--we feel the difference)
Now, take into consideration that within the last 50 years or so the newer high rise office buildings and apartment complexes (and such) in large cities all over our globe -- and the newest phenomenon is to use the mirrored reflective glass windows! Oh, it's attractive to be sure, but at any given time, on a clear sunny day, the sun shines on these windows and the heat that would normally filter through clear glass --reflects back up into the atmosphere, burning off zillions of the atmospheric protective layered particles of our globe called ozone---which the ozone IS our means of surviving on Earth --is our protective shield against the sun's EXTREME heat.---again, heat rises and expands ---could it be possible that maybe this is another factor that scientists should consider?
What do you think on this subject ---could I possibly be on the right track for thought?

That is a very interesting theory and one that I must admit, I hadn't thought of. You could be on to something with this!
Hmmm. Interesting thought. Have you found any research that might support it? It makes sense, if indeed the ozone layer is affected my actual heat. I was under the impression is was affected more by the chemical makeup of emissions. I may have to look into this...now you've got me thinking.
No, I have no basis on my thoughts. It's just that---thoughts to provoke minds shifting into more thoughts and ideas. But, hey---anything's possible!! Even in science.
Sounds plausible Wystful. I'm glad you're thinking about it.
Wow...I love how you think!!
It could be a definate possibility!!
:-D
Something I had never even considered! very interesting :)
You have actually made me realise something about myself....I never really "question" what the scientific community tell's us...I just accept that these people are far more knowlegable than I, and take everything at face value (of course this has its limits....some thing's are just outright illogical ;).
Definately thought provoking!
Michael Crichton wrote an interesting novel about the global warming phenomenon, and really raised some thoughts about how statistics can be manipulated. I seriously don't know what to think about it!
I love your Thursday Thoughts concept. How smart are you?? The graphic is charming too.
I think your theories are very plausible, Wystful1. Are you possibly related to Al Gore? I'm not as up to speed on this topic as you obviously are...I need to do some major Googling!
I've never been faithful to participating in the Thursday Thirteen. Like you, some weeks I'm completely inspired; other weeks, forget it. Your idea is so much more attainable. Where do I sign up?
I plan to post my idea later today. But my Nice Thing for this week is up if you care to drop by.
Have a great day!
Not only do I think of that subject, but I teach it! My hubby works in the windmill industry too! *S* Mostly my 10th graders start off by saying, well, that's interesting, but what can they do about it? The good thing is that they can do a whole lot! Just helping those kids become aware that they are huge comsumers too makes a whole lot of difference. For every "stand-by" button they leave running, uses a lot of energy. Recycling, buying better products and not adding to pollution is a big step for them. I remember when aerosol cans went off the shelves over here, because everyone starting buying sprays with pumps. So we can all do our bit! Great idea for a weekly theme! I'll be back, for sure!

I've always wondered about this and what the world will be like when our grandchildren are our age. And yes, I used that magnifying glass and newspaper when I was a kid. While I was teaching school, we graphed how many students let the water run while they brushed their teeth, then calculated how much water went down the drain in 7 days for our whole school. (I was shocked at how many kids didn't brush their teeth with this little experiment.)
Um...ya... I think you have it there. Since I no longer believe what's reported in the press anymore I'm going to start a movement. "Bloggers tell all". Our catch line will be "If it's on a blog, it must be true".
Thanks for the inspiration! :)
Hey, I think I may join your little Thursday ditty in a while. I still have some more TT's ideas to write but soon I will be looking for a different avenue. I like change. What can I say?
Happy day to you!
I have a place to post your blog url for such Thursday thoughts -- on my sidebar!
Thank you for visiting my blog. I love meeting new people. And might I say, I think you are brilliant. What an amazing theory. My gosh, we are creating our own solar heat with all the cities of glass. I never would have thought of that, but it is entirely plausible.
Have you posed this theory to researchers who might be able to follow it up?
Cheers,
Josie
No, I haven't even thought of going to anyone who may 'work' on my theory. Surely there are people out there that would have thought of this...it's just my own theory!
I guess it holds some true. It's a lot of different things that's contributing to it. Good thinking anyway.
I have posted a joke post about Global Wrming effect earlier.
Yes, the T13 is getting a bit boring too after a while. I'm not very found of the list-shape of it. I like to write a normal post instead. Oh, I'll probably keep up with the T13 anyway just because I'm stubborn... We'll see.
Nice idea of yours with the Thursday thoughts. More interesting.
Oh, I forgot, come on over and have a Friday Dance :-)
I'm digging in my costume bag right now...searching for my hula skirt!! -- I'll be right over!!
I haven't had much luck with assigning different posts to different days although I enjoy reading them. I've fallen down on Friday cat blogging horribly. I'm scatterbrained and it's nothing short of a miracle that I've managed so far to keep up with the "post a day" contest, whatever it's called.
My reasoning comes from observing the weather. We never (or maybe only once) hit freezing here last year and the summer was almost unbearable.
Global warming? Greenhouse effect? Polluting our big blue marble almost beyond recovery? Sure and how many are paying attention.
