SUNDAY'S SNIPPET
Sunday's snippets is my original idea to share something a bit 'out of the ordinary'...yet, newsy without being of crimes, wars, hate and such that the media tends to over saturate the papers/tv/internet. I wanted Sunday to be a bit 'peaceful' and enjoyable with meaningless stature or perhaps something of an intersting value!!
Recently, being of the hippie generation, I read something that really brought a bit of nostalgia to me....yet it brings life as we know it today. A snippet of interest ---
Cute, huh? It's very high-tech. The article states that in San Diego's Volkswagen Silicon Valley Research Lab, the iconic 'love bus' has been platformed with technologies of lithium batteries, surfboards lined with solar panels, and even an electronic bumper sticker! (view top right corner when picture is enlarged).
It's called the Chameleon. It was a year's project. Tho the VW van was often used for surfers and middle-class families for campers and travelers, it's now a sought after phenomenon! (today, a classic VW 'bus'* sells for $45,000.00 - USA currency - for collectors *without the high tech additons of course).
This Chameleon has many hidden features you don't see at first glance....
-Beneath the gas tank door is a palm recognition sensor (a fingerprint reader)
-No gas---it's all electronic!
-Where the horn should be is a touchpad sensor for you, where you can do music, navigation, and parking!
-Behind the front seats is a 60 inch projection screen.
In the middle of the van's rear bumper is an electronic bumper sticker where you can program your OWN...
-and more features to numerable to mention!!
(This lab has won several prestigious awards...including one $2 million prize for creating a driverless vehicle, Stanley, which won a race in the desert, in 1998.)

I remember a friend of mine, Teri, had a little red VW beetle, and I loved to drive it. But boy was it tough getting up hills in the Colorado mountains!! LOL -- After minutes of climbing and over-working the little engine....WOWZERS could we ever whip around the moutainous curves going DOWN-hill!!! (I'm surprised we're still alive sometimes)

Leave some space for me!!
That VW is so neat and I remember them when they were new. I can't believe they are a collector's item selling for that much now...WOW.
Glad to hear some good news for a change.
An electronic bumper sticker, huh? Now THAT is cool. I want one on my truck!
My second car was a VW beatle, I were 23 I guess was a very economic car especially for here, because the gaz prices have always been much higher then in the States. After we even drove to Italy with that ! 1.800 KM ! It was our only car. Later when we moved to Waterloo I had a 2CV that was a great car and soooo funny ! I had 3 of them over the years as second car.
Talk about a pimped out ride!!! That is so cool (man!)..HAHA. I missed the original Woodstock, so if you're passing through either Pittsburgh or Jacksonville, don't forget to pick me up.
I had a 1972 VW beetle. I paid $1900 for it. It drove like a dream. I wish I still had that car.
Great post, Wystful!

My first car was a 1958 blue VW bug! I still have a pic of it somewhere. I had to learn to drive a stick to be able to use it.
This bus is a bit to high tech for me!!
:)
I found your blog through Blogging Chicks, and wanted to comment because the VW thing was so neat. My mom used to tell me about a
beetle her friend had--the brakes didn't work very well, so to stop the car, they had to "crash" it into curbs. Good thing they lived in the Bronx and not in Colorado, huh?
Did we have fun or what? Oh I can rcall some of the things we did. :)
Just a quick note to say hello and wish you a wonderful holiday season...hope you had a nice Thanksgiving...will be back to blogging soon, I hope. Swampy :)
I own a 1972 VW Bus and know Chameleon well. That the RED VW Bus in your picture in front of the GG Bridge.!!
Are they just the most awesome things on the planet.
Thanks for a neat post..
Peace, Kai.
Hi Wystful,
I've just had a lovely time reading through your blog, I have visited before for a quick look and bookmarked to come back for a proper read, thank you.
Some of my hippy days were spent at a New Zealand festival called Nambassa, I wish they would have a re-union.

p.s. sorry, I forgot to say - I like your blog layout, and the things you have on it - well done!
One thing though, the first page starts about halfway down the screen for me - , is that how you usually see it? I am using IE7
Della
