After losing all my blog archives once quite a while ago...I now notice the 'newer' stuff that has been replacing the lost archives,... today's posting is my 300th. Wow, I didn't know I could talk that much. :o)
This morning, I'm proud to say - "My wallpapering is done!!" I finished yesterday afternoon. Cleaned up my mess, and took a few pictures for my sister to share with her in Colorado. So, thought I'd bring 'em up here to show you what I've been doing since last Saturday!
Here are a couple 'before' shots (old wallpaper--white with frog pond lilies---yucky!!) --
And here is the after section (imported black and gold embossed wallpaper with a touch of sage green and salmon pink. Click photos to enlarge. There are two rooms. The main room just off the hall is ALL wallpapered. The 2nd room connected to the main is painted black---with a mixing of wallpaper)---
My dear hubby, being a Navy dude, has over the years, collected Oriental Figurines. And since this is the bathroom he uses most, we put all the Japanese/Oriental in here....
doorway -- to the left is the clothes/laundry shoot (in the cupboard)
above the shower -wallpapering and black paint--
Japanese tea lights--an oriental slate candle holder (the box shaped one) and the antique Japanese abacus
A silk geisha girl - primping at the hand held mirror (framed)--this is looking from the vanity room toward the shower room, through the 2nd doorway
The vanity room
And this extra picture shows what will go into a shadow box on the wall above the towel rack (Bud has to build it yet *Shhhh*!!! He doesn't know that part right now, but will!!!) Right now, I have him busy rebuilding a wall closet that goes above the toilet. When it's done he will have opened one side to display his huge teak wood Ho-Tei figurine. But, he's still working on it. --

Yep! It's a beaut! You really are even MORE adventuresome than I am! I'm not sure I would have had the nerve to put BLACK paint on my walls... especially after having done the red in Derek's room and finding out how many coats it took to get full coverage! Did black take a lot of coats? Of course - that's a very small area so it wouldn't be so bad... but I had to paint Derek's ENTIRE room 4 times! UGH! I LOVE all the oriental stuff Bud has collected! I have some things Amanda brought me back from Korea -- and I would love to display them -- but they just DO NOT GO with "country"... ya know? THIS is very nice though! Does Bud LOVE it? I know you two were buttin' heads over the paper issue for a few minutes -- but I bet now that it's done and he "sees" it, I bet he loves it! That's how Dennis always is! He balks at any drastic changes I want to make -- but he's learned to just keep quiet and go with it - cuz he always likes it in the end! LOL!
Thanks for coming by this morning! Yep -- I was IN the cart - no denying it! It was a hoot! We had SO much fun! I really wanna do it with OUR crew!
Melli---well, to honest, we've had black paint on walls before. In Colorado we had black and rose wallpaper in our bedroom. With pink accents. So...yes, we like the black. It's very dramatic and relaxing actually. And it only took one coat in most areas. Really! Just one coat. But I primed the walls first after the old paper was torn off. So priming it makes a heckuva difference.
And, ya---Bud really likes it. Once we had the wallpaper argument settled, and agreed with the gold embossed and the flower border(I put the bordering vertical in between the wallpaper for more of a 'striped' effect). Then, it was his idea to do the black accenting. And it really looks great against the red/cherry woodwork!!
Wystful1,
I have to tell you that bathroom of yours turned out great! Like Melli said I don't think I would have the nerve to put black paint on any of my walls what with my traditional Mortheastern upbringing (LOL), but I have to say it looks really dramatic and pretty in the photos. Outstanding job - wallpapering is harder to do than many people realize. Believe me, I know. I once owned a very old house that had several rooms with old, old wallpaper (back when it was REAL paper) and stripping it off and putting up new was a labor of love. I wasn't married then and I had lots of time on the weekends to work on it. Ask me about stenciling too sometime! Now there's an unsavory job!
As for the Lincoln bed, did you happen to see my post about the curator from the John Heinz Museum certifying its authenticity? It's in bad shape, but it's the real deal.
Yep, Lincoln did sleep in it. Cool, huh?
Happy Thursday to you!
Boy you have been really really busy!! WOW!! But just look how nice it is looking for you and your hubby!! I just love it when it is all finished!! How great!! Nice to see the pictures!! Thanks for letting us see them. Now can you sit back and relax? SAndy
