I may come across as heartless and cold to some, with this photo(this is an artist's version of the new memorial of twin towers disaster); by having my 'memorial' without devastating photos of the 'twin towers', or a flag of our country, or a name of an individual who lost his/her life. Yes, I remember the fateful day 5 years ago. And I REMEMBER exactly what I was doing when the news broke for me. And yes!--I watched in horror between the tears flowing. And yes, I asked the question that most asked..."Why"?
Yet, after five years, five LONG years of the same questions and still no answers, and still no peace, and still I feel extremely filled with anxieties and fears of travel (not just flying anymore either). Is there hope? No doubt. Will there continue to be threats world wide of terrorism? No doubt.
I feel deeply about this. I see all kinds of blogs and web pages with names of people lost. It's all well and good. And VERY heartwarming! I see closeness of a country now torn; ours! The USA! That's sad to me. Really sad. Sad, because it takes tragedy to make a heart feel the way our countrymen have felt in the last few years. Why does it take trauma to see the good in people? Why is it always too late?
But, I also see eastern countries still at war. They too are losing lives. Not only because of the strife from the terrorism and hate of the world. It's been going on for centuries.
I also feel deep in my heart, that the term "GROUND ZERO" means that the country can rebuild from nothing. The zero. New York was targeted. As was Washington D.C.'s Pentagon and the tragic, yet heroic effort of the flight in Pennsylvania thwarting the hijacking of the targeted capitol building. Five years ago. Terror has played a part around the WORLD. Women who are widows from our country are now in contact and supporting women who are widows from the mid-east!!!
There's talk of a conspiring government. That we 'knew' of the attack, and did nothing to stop it. After the long five years I still have questions and doubts. But I also have a positive mixed in there.
WE WILL build from ground zero. We will prevail. As the world will see days come and days go. Along with many more years in our lives of turmoil and lives lost.
Think about all the wars/people dying in the past, because of freedom....from other eras. The scars families have endured. America is strong. America is stronger because of lives lost and freedoms. It still is a more vulnerable country because of the attack. And yet, I feel it will grow stronger by the day.
Yes, I remember 9-11-2001....but don't linger on it. That's my stand. If I lived in a depressed state this country seems to be in these days with rememberances and all, I probably would not be here typing....I will try my hardest to dwell on the FUTURE!!!
So, here in my blog entry of 9-11, you won't find any ONE name (I don't know who they were, but they died in vain, yet ALL are heroes of our country), you won't see me typing much of sadness and sorrow. Instead you see that I want to see strength for generations to come!!! Our kids and grandkids and their future.
The former New York City's Mayor, Mr. Giuliani, once said: "People who have the blessings of freedom have more strength than they often realize."
We DO have strength...and we will see "The rebirth of a great nation!!" ~Wystful 1

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd worked for all my life,
And I had to start again
with just my children and my wife,
I'd thank my lucky stars
to be living here today,
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom
and they can't take that away.
I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
From the lakes of Minnesota
to the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas
from sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston
and New York to L.A.,
There's pride in every American heart
and it's time we stand and say:
I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

I do agree with your post & I am pleased that you shared your deepest heart-felt thoughts about 9-11 and I know that you are not cold or heartless.
However, I do have a memorial tribute to one of the victims of that tragic day ready to be posted on Monday...it is a way that I can help to keep his memory alive.
My 2nd story has been added to my blog.
I don't find your photo or post cold but a beautiful one. After 5 years, I don't want to see those photos, the images are something I'm not likely to ever forget.
Thing is, we'll never have all the answers. We'll never know what's next. I don't live in fear or sorrow from 9/11 but in anticipation for the future.
My blog is one of those you mentioned with a personal tribute. It was a challenge to write about someone I did not know. It did encourage me to stop letting people just be a face to me & try to get to know people.
I agree with you whole heartedly, we ARE a great nation!
That is a beautiful picture!! Your post was great!! I just got back and am trying to get through reading everyones posts since I have been gone these couple of days.
I too remember exactly where I was and what I was doing. It is just one of those things that you never forget.
Have a great weekend...
Such a heartfelt post, W1.
Wishing you a peace filled weekend
Well said. We should not dwell on tragedy, but we also should not forget.
My oldest asked me today "What's the World Trade Center?" That was a hard question to answer. He was 7 weeks old on September 11, 2001, and I can still vividly remember standing in my living room, holding my newborn son, and watching people jump from those towers. How do you explain that?
You've conveyed your thoughts well in this post!
You're right, it's hard to believe in some ways that not much has changed. But we must carry on.
Very well said. I read on someone's blog today, a quote from her great aunt. She said, "And then it will pass, not stay."
I think the artistic representation of the memorial is beautiful.

I don't think your post is cold.
Although we are remembering the lost, we must also look to the future.
Life goes on, we rebuild, people are remembered with smiles, not tears.
I have a memorial on my blog, but I also have this:
