This is our son, celebrating on Parent's Day
It's about our youngest child!!! A mere child of teenage years.
He made it through the toughest boot camp in USA!
The United States Marine Corps
San Diego Recruiting Station
1990-at the age just barely out of high school, 18 years old.
On this day -he celebrates the longest period in his life without chocolate! Buying 3 bags of Reese's Pieces at the base's P X.
And, while he was taking me and hubby around the training field, he consumed one whole bag.
(They weren't allowed chocolate during the 7 weeks of training)
added update for today, 2006: OUR SON WAS IN THE MARINE CORPS DURING THE GULF WAR. HE IS NOW A FULL TIME CAREER MAN, SINGLE, WORKING WITH AN INVESTMENT COMPANY, GOING TO A PRIVATE UNIVERSITY IN HOUSTON TEXAS AT NIGHT AFTER WORKING HOURS, GETTING HIS DOCTORATE DEGREE FOR HIS FUTURE IN TEACHING AT A COLLEGE OF HIS YET TO BE CHOSEN INSTITUTION. Maybe, just maybe, since he has aspirations to be a historian educator in days to come, he'll be on the History Channel. I can't wait to see his name with a Dr. in front for his title. He's making a big difference in society.

That's a great photo and story. :) 3 bags of reese pieces? :) Wow and I thought I was a chocolate lover.
I love Reese too. I will definitely celebrate if I had 3 bags.
My photo is up too!
Ohhhh...I want that candy! :-) The first candy I eat when I am back in the States is Reese's peanut butter cups!
7 weeks without chocolate??? that young man deserved the chocolate celebration!!
Congratulations to your son, what a great achievement :)
Wow, I admire him for that. I did the USAF boot camp and that was cake compared to the one your son went through. He should be very proud. Have a great weekend!
Awwww....how 'sweet' that is! And no chocolate for so long?? That would be torture!!
Great picture!!
i can relate! that's how i am after abstaining from chocolates too! mine's up! ;)
poor kid, no chocolate? Those marines are just vicious! Congrats on his wonderful accomplishment. (surviving the 7 weeks, not consuming the whole bag) ;) I played too..Stacie
Congrats to your boy - not sure I'd make it that long without chocolate... eek!
lol I bet he had a chocolate coma afterwards! The drink in my picture was called a Karmel Sutra, vanilla vodka, caramel vodka, a splash of cream and some caramel lining the glass.
Thanks for visiting my SPSH!
too funny!
- no chocolate and boot camp!
great pic! I'm sure he loves it!
I remember when my husband graduated boot - he celebrated to - in many ways!
Wow! 7 weeks without chocolate. I couldn't do it!!!!
Oh Wystful! Now, you KNOW I love this celebration picture! I had actually thought about using Amanda's graduation from HER bootcamp too -- she celebrated by eating two cakes of Monkey Bread I'd brought all that way! This is AWESOME!!! I just love it!!!
Wow - they were not allowed chocolate? I hope your son's stomach didn't get up-set after an entire bag of reeses pieces.
7 weeks with no chocolate?! That's CRUEL!
Mine is up.
Oh, man! I was in the Army and I remember the end of basic (not as tough as the Marines but tough enough!) and I think I can fully relate to this picture!
Thanks for visiting mine!
LOL that is funny.. man he must have been thinking about those for the whole 7 weeks...lmbo
I LOVE Reeses Pieces!! 7 weeks without chocolate, poor thing :(
As the daughter of a retired Marine, I think this picture rocks!!!
Ahh Reese's Pieces... your son has good taste! Great photo...
Yum!...no chocolate for all that time? I'm surprised he only bought 3 bags! lol..Great photo sweetie!
Congratulations to your son!! Seriously, for completion of boot camp. Jokingly, for going so long without chocolate!
Cute photo! Hope he didn't get too sick after that. ;)
Have a great Saturday!
Boy, I sure would celebrate the end of that 7 weeks, too!
7 weeks without chocolate - that is what I call dedication! I am not "addicted" to chocolate, but I don't think even I could do that! lol
Yikes, 7 weeks without chocolate? I think I'd die LOL
I'm a big Reese's fan myself!
I admire you son for making it through the Marine Corp boot camp. My husband is a former Marine.
Great picture for today theme, as always! Have a great weekend!
Quite an accomplishment - not only being without chocolate, but the training camp *lol*

That is a beautiful post, Wystful! I bet he was exactly the kind of young person I'm looking for in the Pass the Torch contest. Do you have a story about him as a teenager? Or at least under age 20?
I'm sure you're very proud of him...
Got it! I've included you in the entries. Thank you for participating!!
Thanks for including the contest image and link! I have code for one that says "contest", though, rather than "award" (that one's for the winner;)) If you email me I can send you that code. It can be on your main page and your entry page. As soon as we receive the rest of the entries today, I'll let you know to send your readers over to vote.
Thanks for participating!
Great photo!
Just thinking about eating that much chocolate makes me not want to eat any. LOL.
(I came here via Pass the Torch.)
Congratulations! The votes are in and your story received the third-greatest number of votes! I've decided to award the Pass the Torch button to the top three vote-getters. So email me and I'll send you the code.
Way to go!!
