In the year and a half that we've resided along the coast, during times walking on the beach (the best time for beachcombing for shells is EARLY, before the 4 wheel drive terrors show up!--that's a whole other story!!!) - hubby and I love to walk along and comb the beach for shells. I've considered myself lucky finding the 'legends' of the shore!

LEGEND The Crucifix Fish: Of all the fishes in the sea our lord chose the lowly sailcat to remind us of his misery.
His body on the cross is outlined, The hilt of the sword which was plunged into his side is clearly defined.
Look at the back of the fishes bone where the Roman shield is shown. When you shake the cross you will hear the dice being tossed for our Lords blood stained dress, those who can hear them will be blessed. (pictured top righthand corner)

LEGEND The Sand Dollar: If you examine closely,
You'll see that you find here four nail holes and a fifth one
Made by a Roman's spear.
On one side, the Easter lily,
Its center is the star
That appeared unto the shepherds
And led them from afar.
The Christmas poinsettia
Etched on the other side
Reminds us of His birthday,
Our Happy Christmastide.
Now break the center open
And here you will release
The five white doves awaiting
To spread Good Will and Peace.
(version 2)Upon this odd-shaped seashell a legend grand is told,
about the life of Jesus, that wondrous tale of old.
At its center you will see, there seems to be a star,
like the one that led the shepherds and wise men from afar.
Around its surface are the marks of nails and thorns and spear,
suffered by Christ upon the cross; the wounds show plainly here.
But there is also an Easter lily, clear for us to see,
the symbol of Christ's resurrection for all eternity.
(pictured here -two sand dollars- one large, called the arrowhead sand dollar because of it's shape *very rarely found*, center and one very small bottom right)
LEGEND The Starfish: Brilliant stars of the heavens were placed into the sea
When God created ocean creatures with their beauty.
As we gaze into the waters His wondrous plans unfold
The Star Fish sings his song of praise
While spun in noble gold.
The Creator made sea creatures
And waters wherein they swim
Man and fish, on earth and in sea owe their very lives to Him.

Oh I love these legends. I had never heard the one about the crucifix before. Thanks Wys!
I've only found one intact sand dollar, but it is very special and I have it in a frame.
