Halloween FUN FOR KIDS
Friday's Feast below
I saw this on the 'net once and thought it'd be fun to share with y'all who enjoy or decorate for Halloween; and have young kids, or perhaps like me, "a kid at heart" when it comes to having a house full of decorations.
Some may think I'm a bit crazy and eccentric when it comes to decorating, but it gives me a change of pace around the house, I love to take all I have out of the boxes each year and enjoy the celebrating. Be it for Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, St. Pat's Day or whenever. I enjoy it. The crafts and the decorating makes me happy.
Today it's a "Yarn Bug" made from, of course, yarn and much more but all very inexpensive. If you don't have the necessary objects, you can always find something else around the house that will work out just fine. Afterall, it's supposed to be fun. Use your imagination--(perhaps in place of the 'jiggly eyes' you could knot white yarn into a small pom pom and dab a bit of black paint for the pupil. The imagination is endless)
WHAT YOU NEED
Orange and Neon Green Yarn
Pattern for Witch Hat (below-again, size is up to you)
Black Craft Foam
Black Foam Feet
Two Wiggle Eyes -- 20mm
1/2" Neon Green Pompom
2-1/2" Styrofoam Ball
5" Square of Cardboard
Tacky Glue and Clothespin
Scissors
INSTRUCTIONS
Make a pompom by wrapping yarn around a 5" piece of cardboard at least 100 times. Mix colors or use all one color. Cut a 6" piece of yarn and slide it under wrapped yarn. Tie tightly into a double knot. Turn floppy over and cut completely through yarn on this side. Turn yarn blob sideways and smooth down strands.
Press Styrofoam ball onto a hard surface to flatten bottom. (You can also use an egg carton section.) Cover the top and sides of the ball with tacky glue. Separate the strands of the pompom to fit the Styrofoam ball up inside. Press pompon into place. Arrange yarn.
For hat(you could use poster board or stiff paper...maybe even black felt instead of the suggested foam), staple, (or glue if you're using another item for hat other than foam) all around patterns onto craft foam. Cut out pieces. Glue the bottom of the Styrofoam ball on to the foam feet(again, you can use stiff cardboard for a foot that you cut out yourself and paint). Glue on eyes. For optional arms, cut the pipe cleaner in half. Glue on hands. Poke the pipe cleaners into the bug for arms. Bend at the elbows. Glue on the wiggle eyes.
Make another pompom out of orange yarn. Wrap it 50 times around the cardboard. Tie off and cut. Turn yarn blob sideways and smooth down strands. Separate the yarn and place it over the green yarn for hair. Trim.
Glue hat into a cone. Using a clothespin to secure until glue dries. Run a bead of glue on the bottom rim of the cone. Glue it to the center of the circle. Let dry. Glue on a pompom nose.
