...so, I found a bit of extra ambition today. *shock* And I began to (notice, I said began!) to clean out the refrigerator. Way back, close to the back wall of the inside I found a carton of cottage cheese that was outdated. And dumb o' me---I opened it. Boy, was it cultured! Green fuzzy stuff all over. So, gagging, I tossed it, closed the refrigerator door, and said to hubby "I think today we need to get some of our own culture!" Off we went! In our city, there was a grand opening of a new wing to our art center. To avoid the crowds, we decided to wait and go see it during the week instead of the weekend. Today, it was culture time for us 'hillbilly hicks'. I actually remembered to take my camera. I had a hunch that cameras were not allowed, but I took it in with us anyway. Of course they had stated "No photography allowed" when we entered. Aha!!! But, but-------I learned how to turn off the flash, right? Remember? Ha!! And I even remembered how to do it. *more shock*
So we enter the first gallery. Great stuff there. I'm getting all kinds of satisfactory culture here. (Now, to be honest, I'd much rather go to an art museum as I love all kinds of art---but, hubby? No way José! He'd much rather be at a sports event.) Anyway, I'm traipsing around, ooooooing and ahhhhing at the fantastic art works on exhibit. Oh ho!!--a nice little private alcove!! And there isn't a security guard within sight! I turn on my digital...there is one beautiful piece of sculpture that depicts our area of the country--more or less. Still no guard. I sneak up on the piece of art -- good lighting here in the room! What luck! I focus, make sure the flash is off, and I clicked away.
Mind you, I didn't want to push my luck. Hubby surely would have said he didn't know me if I got caught and kicked out. hehehehe---yes sir! He wouldn't recognize me in the least!! Honest.
Well, to make the long story a bit shorter--we spent a couple of hours in there today. They even had a great Frederick Remington Bronze in the Native American gallery. Some great displays of ceramics, oils, watercolors, graphite sketches. Oh and some really weird stuff called art...but I never could figure out those kinds---makes one wonder what they're on when working on their 'masterpieces', ya know?
Anywhooooo, afterwards, we walked around the downtown center where the museums and auditoriums and stuff like that are, today. Then for a treat, we took ourselves to Texas's own two story hamburger joint -- Whataburger (Oh ya...that reminds me--in the photography gallery there was one HUGE, blown up picture of the infamous soft drink cup---the photo title? "Whatacup"!! Clever, huh? No? Guess you had to be there to appreciate it. And maybe love their burgers.
Okay, so I could gab more, but I best get to the photos (the one from inside that I wasn't supposed to take too!)
This is where we tie up our vehicles! Ha!! Actually this is where we park --it's a boat/ship docking area. The photo is a ship cleat.
Since the art museum is right on the port's ship channel, this is a view through the windows of the museum (lots of pretty scenery open to the human eye through the windows here!!)
This bronze statue of Texas's famous Longhorns is at the museum's entryway. (I have placed the photo I took of the title in the insert)
Now, this is the piece of sculpture that caught my eye, and the one that I just had to have a picture of---regardless of the consequences. It's a piece of blue uncut, pure, crystal. Hand carved. Oh so pretty!!!
This is the fountain just outside the museum, the building in the background is called the Bank Center/Selena Auditorium. It's actually 4 buildings in one, and all the concerts, rodeos, ummmmmmmm, 'cultural' things happen here!!!
Who knows what tomorrow will bring-maybe I'll see what else is in the refrigerator that is of some unknown substance!

My fridge has scary stuff in it, i'm sure. I'm too scared to look!
And yes, Monticello is very much like the University. I think Jefferson was brilliant!
I love this post with all the pictures. And that crystal carving is absolutely breathtaking. I so love it!
I need to learn my way around here so I can go and see some places. Thank you so much for sharing this.
What a FUN day! I love the longhorn! What a great piece!
The fountain is lovely, as is the vase. Amazing piece that.
So you are right on the Gulf coast (water) side of Texas then. One of these days....
Glad you enjoyed your day.
Hello Wystful 1- Some great photos there, and how lucky are you to get your husband there for 2 hours.
Thanks for your comments, and hope we will never need stroke advice, but it doesn't hurt to know these things.
Take care, Cheers, Merle.
You lead such a cultured life W1!
