Well, the foundation inspector had his office manager call us to inform us that he couldn't come out at our scheduled appointment to look over what needs to be done, if anything, because he was selected to sit on a trial as a juror!! So, we rescheduled for next week. Hopefully he'll be free by then. I tellya, that jury stuff is so irritating. Yes, it's a privilege to sit in on a trial, but when a business owner has to stop what he's doing because he's selected it gripes me...and I'm sure it disrupts the owner also. Not just me. Being paid to sit at maybe $20-$50 a day and losing $100's a day just doesn't make sense.
Okay, so I'm off my podium and have calmed down a bit. We did reschedule, and have altered our plans to go for a trip later in the month.
So, I've been online shopping for wallpaper as I want to get started on the redecorating. Also, I think I finally found some 'in stock' wallpaper for the master bathroom. The exact colors I have in mind. Didn't look at the price since I had to come home and measure to get the coverage figured out---
Not bad, only 5 rolls needed. Cool.
But the other hall bathroom off the 2 extra bedrooms here is going to be more of a chore. We have many oriental imports in that room, and I want something with an oriental 'flair'. I did find some online so maybe I'll decide to order it.
So, while I'm sitting 'idle' waiting for next week, and since we had to alter our travel plans...I've been thinking----

Years and years ago....I'm talkin' decades ago, my mother in law gave me some brandied fruit on top of ice cream one time when we had lunch together. I loved it. (this is not for someone who should watch their sugar intake). And I asked her how to make it. She informed me that it's from a 'starter' mix. And she'd get me some 'working'...but to be patient since it takes weeks to ferment.
Okay, patience I have when it tasted that good.
About a month later she presented me with the fruit. I eventually stopped adding fruit. For years hubby and I had it on our counter and we'd at times top our ice cream or pound cake with the delicious brandied fruit. It's just so scrumptious.
Now I'm wondering just how it would be on top of my ice cream or perhaps topping a slice of angel food cake...or maybe even a spoonful with my yogurt. Once again!! Hmmmmm, anyway...
I'm going to get a starter going again. And thought I'd share the way to make it for you, plus post the scanned picture of it here....
(sorry for the quality of the photo...it's from an album of mine and it's dated 1976! I even see an old Avon seahorse bottle for decorating the countertop, lol) See? It has been years! ) Anyway, my starter had chunked peaches, pineapple tidbits, cherries, and diced pears. But my M-I-L's also added blueberries on top when dished out (I'm sure the reason here is that blueberries weren't added to the mixture is - it would mess up the coloration and/or whole brandy fermentation). It was not only tasty but it was a pretty addition to her kitchen decor. LOL
I placed my special treat into a LARGE brandy snifter that I bought especially for displaying the brandied fruit. I mean, since it was to be at room temperature always, it was a 'display case'!!
Now for the recipe of hers...
BRANDIED FRUIT STARTER:
1 (15 1/4 oz. ) can pineapple tidbits, drained
1 (16 oz.) can sliced peaches, drained
1 (16 oz.) canned apricots, drained
1 (10 oz.) jar maraschino cherries, drained
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 1/4 cups brandy
Combine all ingredients in clean, glass
bowl; stir gently. Cover and let stand at
room temperature 3 weeks, stirring fruit
twice a week with plastic spoon (do not use any metal utensil).
Serve fruit over ice cream or
pound cake, reserving at least 1 cups starter
at all times.
To replenish starter, add 2 cups sugar (Note from Wystful1: or amount you desire - I never added that much sugar. It just depends on how sweet you like it) and one of the first 4 ingredients every 1 to 3 weeks, alternating fruits each time; stir gently.
Cover and let stand at room temperature 3 days
before using.
notation: add any canned, drained fruit to your taste.

Thanks for the recipe. I had that years ago. I'm definitely going to make some for my kids.
Where have you been? I have not seen you over at my place for a LONG LONG time!! I know you have probably been busy. Just missing your visits. I have been on jury duty and you only get a $10.00 check for being there and a $20.00 check if you go back the next day and are actually ON a trial. Read my blog and see. I always stop and read what is going on in your life...take care..ME!!
OMG OMG! Thank you!
My aunt had this long ago, she used to warm and put it on Ice cream.
Thank you!
Sounds yummy! Thanks!
Jury duty is $12 a day here.
Mmmmmmm! That sounds so yummy. I need to try it. Thanks for sharing.
Back when I practised law I always felt sorry for those poor people on the jury. Hard work and bad pay. :)
I have to try that soon. Sounds good.
I had something like that back when I was a child too! It WAS yummy! Not sure I'd wanna try it "right now" as it could blow things BIG TIME for me!!! LOL! And isn't that similar to what's used in fruitcake?
Disregard my "board" question -- I got my answer here! (about your contractor!)
