A few days ago, I talked about a Halloween decoration in a window at the mall here, and the store, an import store, had a beautiful orange 'tree' decorated in black for Halloween. And the price tag had $79.00!! I proclaimed I could make one for under $10...well, I was close, it all came to a little over $12 (if buying paint and not having a holiday craft sale, it'd be between $15 and $20. But that is a heckuva lot better than $79.00!!!
Well, here are the four steps (actually there were five, but I got 'on a roll' with the 4th step, I forgot to take a picture!)
Step one--
the wire frame (it's actually a 'tomato cage' from a garden shop, selling for $1.59.... (the first step actually is to bind the top of the 'cage' with crafting wire which I have in stock here all the time for repair work or goofy craft projects I get myself into.
Then, step two--
Material
The tomato cage is 33 inches in height, so 1 yard material will do. Cost: $3.00 for the yard
I tied it at the top with orange thread and hot glued the thread, letting the material drape over the cage.
Step three--
The material is gathered and tightened at the bottom circular wire and hot glued from the 'inside' of the cage. Then, two twigs cleaned and painted black--I added black glitter. $1.99 for the glitter. Hot gluing them onto the upright wire frame pieces. I also secured them with black thread tying them around the wire and knotting from the inside.
Step 4 which I failed to photograph is gluing a wire spider onto the frame from the outside and knotting a few of the legs onto the upright wires in the inside. Also, Jack-o-lantern and spider 'confetti' glued around the entire circular wires from the outside. Spider was $2.99 but I got it 50% off at Hobby Lobby, and confetti was $0.99.
Then the last and final step(step 5) was to hang a wooden cutout of a witch and moon (painted prior) and hang it from the inside up---wooden witch was also $0.99 at half off. I used a 16 oz. plastic bottle top (with lid) -painted it black, and covered it with black glitter for the tree top!
(I have mine lighted with an electric light from the inside....the witch moves in the air and looks like she's flying!)

That is beautiful Wystful! And very unique! I would like ONE more close up though... I'm not seeing the witch or the moon... but I would LIKE to!
Oh... I meant to say too -- I LOVE that orange material you chose!!!
That is really very cool! Halloween isn't my favorite holiday, but I do like your tree :)
Oh, I love it!! I have been waiting patiently for this post...and I am definitely impressed...this is fantastic!! *s*
Still not feeling quite up to par so I have not blogged anything today again but will be glad when I feel better.
As you know, I'm not into doing anything at all for Halloween - matter of fact, I ignore it as much as possible. But I've got to tell you that I admire your creativity here - you've done a terrific job. I'm with Mell, I don't see the witch or moon. I'm not sure I even understand where they are. Inside? So there is just a shadow of them on the fabric??? Yep, I think we need another photo.
Happy Sunday!!!
Really cool, W1.
I love that spider
Wow! You're very talented! I don't see the witch either...but, this is very cool nonetheless. I've seen many cute crafts around, and I never buy them cuz I think "oh, I could make that for tons cheaper!" do I ever really make them though? NOPE. I really should though. great job!!
Hello Wystful1 ~~ That is one horrendous spider !! Thanks for your comments. I am glad that you enjoy the jokes. A laugh is good for us and I
