I've been following the latest news about Mr. Gibson's DUI and alleged anti-semitic 'explosion' upon being pulled over by L A Sheriff's officers on the famous Malibu highway. Through our local newspaper, tho sparce articles, and the internet and national news - I see that he will only be prosecuted for driving while under the influence (which actually is all the county can do, I'm sure)........
But to say so many things against a people, it's appalling and a bit frightening to me. Frightening 'cause there is so much hate within him, appalling because of his stature within the community and across the world!
The infamous internet has captured much more. Of greater in depth following of this instance.
Again, I am compelled to read as much of this as possible. I have a good memory of this man, and now I'm torn! And I realize there are much MUCH more important things happening across our great nation and throughout the world. I just wonder how many more like him feel this strongly. Why, if I found a friend of mine that felt this way, I'd surely ask myself if the friendship was worth holding onto. Or if a country leader/representative would act out like this, I would have to question his abilities. Why, the biblical leader loved everyone! Is there so much hate in one person that can make one go into such a tizzy? I've always been told when a person is drunk, you see the "real person" come out. Maybe, maybe not. At times, while reading all about this since late July, I wonder how many other 'commoners' are out there filled with such strong hostility to mankind. Isn't this how wars are started? Anyone, anyone with this much animosity to humans must be fighting a war within themselves.
Anyway, the articles below are just a few I've read. The first one is the most covered and has included a great amount of Mr. Gibson's followers (so to speak). Their opinions of what they feel/felt when the news broke on his arrest. Some good, some bad (audio commentaries). I certainly have mixed emotions on the subject. I once liked him, I feel sorry for the turmoil within him, but I feel I will not support his judgement/disfavor. For me, I won't be one who enjoys his work without being reminded of July 2006.

Great blog Miss W. I've been a member of a musicians group called Rock against Racism for 20 years now - which probably explains my opinion about Mel Gibson.
Mel Gibson is a man who has everything, a great career, money, family... I can't understand why a person like him is so narrow-minded. It is so easy to generalize about a group of human beings and say hateful and hurtful things. Usually this is a sign of inferiority. He has real issues to work out. He has also just lost millions of fans by his racist outburst. Too bad he didn't listen more to the lyrics of Imagine by the beautiful John Lennon. He could have learned a thing or two.
I'm never going to waste money on a Mel Gibson film again, when there are so many other wonderful people making films. I'll never support a racist.
That's my 2 cents!

I think what bothers me is he seemed to be blaming it on the drinking. Clearly the booze only brought out what his mindset already was.
Now I have read his apology to the jewish community and he seems to be taking more responsibility. I think his career will suffer for awhile.
Racism is evil no matter where it comes from. And, the greatest Jewish person who ever lived said "let he who is without sin cast the first stone". While Mr Gibson's alleged actions are deplorable, so is all the hate, and revenge directed towards him by those who are calling for his demise.
from Wystful 1: Exactly, that is exactly what I mean by me having 'mixed emotions' on this.
I agree with Mugwumpmom. I am shocked by all he has said but who among us hasn't done or said something they later regret? Drunk or sober. No one knows what is going on in Mr. Gibson's life. He appears to have it all but then that's only what we see. He obviously has something going on there. I hope & pray he gets some real help.
I think, all we should really do is take his apology at face value & pray for God to take it from there.
If I had a nickel for every customer that said they would never shop at the boutique I use to work at, well I'd have a little bit of money. Everyone bands together at the beginning of something like this & then months or years later they seem to forget what they were protesting for.
'To err is human, to forgive is devine'
Gibson's words were vile and it's a shame. A shame that the man is so filled with frustration and hate. The only tangible option here is to pray for the man, not hate, or shun him in return. What good would that do?
I'll say the same thing that I said on the Martian Anthropologist's blog when he posted about Tom Cruise... I think it's a misdirected effort to boycott a film because of something an actor has done, or said. Reason being, you are punishing everyone involved in the film, not just the actor. It would be the same if someone posted a racist remark in one of your comment boxes; and then everyone boycotted your blog because of it.
I wish healing and truth for Mr. Gibson.
'Fraid Mel has pooped in his nest this time - LOL
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Happy WW to you - mine is up!
This is nothing new for Mel and I've tried to personally boycott him for years.
Drunks don't spout new ideas when they're drunk. They just say what they're already thinking once the alcohol lowers their inhibitions and self control.
A self serving apology to the Jewish people isn't nearly enough. He holds many other outlandish views that keep me from ever respecting him as a person. I don't want to support his views by supporting his career.
