I accidently learned something about blogger comments today. For months I've been posting suggestions on blogger forum page to fix a 'hack' for us bloggers so when we click on the comments' author's name, it would take us to the actual BLOG instead of the profile.
I'm one to try and find an easier way. Always. Then, for some reason, I didn't log on in someone's comment box...I clicked "other" and filled in my name and then the url to my BLOG instead of the "blogger" button where you have to type in your username and blogspot password. Which, of course, logs me into my blog without being into my blog!
When I want to visit friends' blogs to catch up on today's happenings or for some reason a few days back to catch up - if I click on their name they left in the comments of MY blog, I end up going to their profile!
If anyone's like I am, I consider that a waste of my time. LOL (call me lazy) Anyway....
I stumbled on a way to direct others with my comment link in their comments to my BLOG. No more profile!! Yay!!! My name is linked to my blog main page.
I say, yipee!! That'll give the blog owner one less step to do to come visit me. And hopefully saving some friends too, while they click on my name to send them to my BLOG instead of profile all the time. (I can see using the blogger button when commenting on a 'new' blog I've never visited before....it gives them an option of reading my profile to see if they actually 'like the person' behind the comment.) But with friends!!?!!!! Everyone should use the 'other' button to link themselves to their BLOGS not the profile.
Of course there ARE blogs that don't allow the options to have the choices, some have only blogger owners can comment with their preferences. That's okay too, but when I'm given the option....I will use 'other' button from now on...saving friends from heading out to my profile page all the time!!!!
One thing by using the 'other' option in the comments, your profile avatar doesn't show in blogger blogs. That's okay --I'm not that vain where I actually WANT the avatar showing up all the time. It's okay by me. Besides, my profile is on my blog's homepage all the time!! Visitors can see it when they stop by. No sense seeing everyone's plastered all over the comment box anyway.
Anyone else think the profile is a waste of time--Especially with friends' blogs that you tend to visit daily?
OH!!! I'm sure most of you already knew this, but what can I say?--------I'm BLONDER than most. It really was a revelation to me. DUH!!! Blogger people probably think "What an idiot Wystful 1 is!!!" But it works and keeps me from always being annoyed when revisiting friends and clicking on the linked comment --directing me to the never-changing profile of theirs.
NOTE: And it was suggested because the owner has several blogs!!!---and we have to figure out which one we want to view, it's hard and time consuming and somewhat frustrating. But, I say --if you DO have more than one blog and you're participating in blogrolls or memes ---then use the url for THAT blog you use to participate in! For me, it'd be the courteous thing to do. If I were to visit one with many blogs --and I didn't know the proper blog link in the profile page, I'd leave. My time is my time...not used for searching out which blog is the one I need to find. For ME it'd be discourteous to NOT help out in a way I can.
For instance if you have several blogs....tictactoe.blogspot.com and txholdem.blogspot.com....the proper url would be to link it to the one you wish them to visit for the day. Say my blogrolls are on txholdem and I leave a comment for all the blogrollers --I'd use
http:/ / txholdem.blogspot.com

Just to show you what I mean....when I go to publish this comment, I will click OTHER instead of my name -
You then click on my name, and it will take you to my BLOG instead of my profile.
I didn't know that! Thanks for a useful bit of knowledge!
I do. And I have thought about that several times too -- wishing that it took me straight to their page, but I understand why it doesn't - and that is for people who have several blogs -- and I've run into a few that have 6 or 7 blogs. Of course, this drives me even MORE crazy because then you have to look through their blogs if you don't know which one they might be "playing" whichever game on.
Wystful 1 says: Yes, they should have the courtesy to type in the blog entry url for that day OR the correct blog they're using and want us to visit! That'd be what I would do. There should be some protocol for that too that would make a lot of visitors more happy.
Well I didn't know it, and I hate having to go to the profile. Does anyone read the profiles??? Not me,I read the blog to get to know someone.
Thank you for the tip!
Hehe - I do that most of the times. But like you said, some people do not have all options on their blog ...
You see, I am even lazier. I don't even to go my blog for returning comments - I got through my email, because with WP you get the URL right in your inbox if you have the opition clicked to receive email notification. The only time it becomes tricky if the commenter leaves the incorrect URL...So, be sure to always leave your correct URL on my comments - *grin*
Wystful 1 says: See? I didn't realize by doing it that way, that it actually linked the blog! I just figured, without paying attention, it took us to the profile as the other way. I learn something every day.
Thanks for the info. I always check out one or two bloggers and then go to all their commenters. I'm forever going to profile pages. I would have done it right tonight, but I can barely sit up to read
Wystful1 - this iss uch a great post! Of course, I read it AFTER leaving eleventy million comments the wrong way;)
So I'll do it that way from now on. But how do you get the comments to turn up as links? I'd rather do that than the Mr. Linky, but don't know how. Can you please tell me??
