Freddy Fender - Corpus Christi
A resident of my city, a well-known Country Western artist - Grammy winner Freddie Fender, age 69, has lung cancer. Sadly, his physicians here and San Antonio found numerous spots(two, reportedly the size of lemons) of incurable cancer on his lungs during treatment of fungal infection. With chemotherapy, making his body react violently, Freddy decided to forego any more treatments for now, or at least a lower dosage. In 2002 Freddy underwent a kidney transplant and 2004, a liver transplant.
He has been recording and singing since the late 1950's, a natural-born Texan native. Songs include Wasted Days and Wasted Nights, Before the Next Teardrop Falls and others.
He has chosen to stay in Corpus, in his home, to rest and recouperate along with his wife, Vangie. Future options of advanced cancer treatments may be in store for Freddie...
The outpouring of love and memories/friendships toward Freddy and his wife have been heart warming to say the least...his guestbook has FILLED rapidly with such wonderful things said!!
