LOL! I have a story about them!
When my mom was a little girl her parents took her down to (MY) Chesapeake Beach one day and it was jellyfish season. They were washed up EVERYWHERE! Well, my mother and her brother decided they were going to do something about THIS situation -- they were going to KILL all the jelly fish! So they picked up each one that had washed up (carefully - from the top) and ripped them in half and threw them BACK in the bay!
LOL! Of course, jellyfish regenerate, so all they really did was double the population! ;)
That is SOOOO cool! My WW is up :-)
Hate jellyfish! Was attacked by a Portuguese Man of War ( a specie of jellyfish) ten years ago and it made my left swell for days. Had to take steroids.
Thanks for dropping by today. Happy Wednesday!
ewww, just thinking about stepping on one or "meeting" one in the water sends shivers...
Look out! I'd be the one to step on it! Great photo...even if I don't like the subject matter! My WW is up on My Photo Blog.
Ooooo. I need to go to the beach, but not find one of those ;).
Thats a great pic, W1.
They don't last long on the hot sand this time of year do they?
Happy Wednesday.
Ah - that is were I left my little brain. Started to wonder what happened to it.
Have a wonderful Wednesday.
That is a big one. It must leave a very bad sting huh.
Thanks for dropping by.
It must have just washed up, otherwise it would have been surrounded by feasting seagulls. Nice shot!
Ahh....beachs and jellyfish ....tis the season!
They look so beautiful (from a distance) in the water, and so alien on land.
mp
oooh. their appearnace is deceptive. how something so fragile-looking can inflict so much suffering is truly amazing...
thanks for visiting my ww! ;)
They are very beautiful but I don't want to swim when they are around! Happy WW!
Is that one that glows when you step on it? Those are so cool!
That is so neat! I live smack dab in the middle of North America with no ocean for miles. I've never seen that before. That is just so cool...thanks for sharing and visiting today!
Jellyfish....reminds me of when i was in Pensacola, Fla. after the hurricane in '85. The jelly fish were everywhere. Great post!!!Happy WW..
To me that is a picture of horror -- one of my childhood nightmares centers on a day at the beach made highly traumatic by a relative of this fella. I wasn't stung, but another child was and the grownup were literally grabbing kids -- their own or not -- and tossing them out of the surf and onto the beach.
See! You horrified me so much I forgot to tell you I've joined wordless Wednesday! My offering is posted.
Neat picture! I've never seen one in person (we don't get many jellyfish here in Missouri LOL)
I've heard it is horrible to step on one, but it sure makes an interesting photo!
Thanks for sharing - my WW is up.
Hope you have a great day!
I have always wanted to see one so close but it is a little scary to know how you can be swimming so close to them and maybe get hurt!
mine is up as well. Happy WW!
When I was younger and we where in Florida I had an unfortunate run in with one of these slimmy things. Boy does it hurt like a dickens :-). Happy WW
Wow, cool!
You can tell I don't live near the ocean, I was thinking "what is that?" so I had to read the comments! LOL! Oh, a jellyfish! Cool! I've seen them at the zoo before. But they're all lit up there.LOL
Thank you for visiting my blog -- I will take your suggestion on the blog roll, although I'm feeling a little presumptious just jumping right in ....
How awesome! I dont think I've seen a jelly fish in the wild! My WW is up!
thats a great pix! we saw one on the beach at myrtle beach last year but it was all mangled looking... ewwwwww... i wanted to take it back to the beach house to show the boys!
I got attacked by one of those when I was in the ocean. Wow that stung! I remember putting mud on it to stop the stinging. Such a stealthy thing.
Ewww....after a horrific experience with one of those, this picture gives me shivers!
Happy Wednesday!
My granddaughter and I tried to figure out what is that thing? Finally in the comments we see it is a jelly fish. As you can see we have not seen one of those yet..guess our time is coming. I have heard how they bite so guess I dont want to see one. I would be like Beckie and step on it!! OOPS..My WW is finally up. I have been running around today!!
These are beautiful creatures, but I would not be caught anywhere near them. They had a wonderful display of them when I went to Monterey. Yup all the man o war warnings were enough to steer me clear. My WW is up. I am a little behind today. I forgot it was Wednesday! LOL
Wow - I wouldn't have wanted to get close, but the picture is awesome.
I joined Wordless Wed. - right after I wrote a long blog on another topic. I should have thrown it in draft until Thursday.
ewwwwwwww....... so that's what they look like up close and personal. One bit my daughter in Myrtle Beach, poor child had to take steriods for a week the reaction was so bad.
I've kept her to pools only since.
Thank you for visiting my blog. I was actually here earlier wearing a different identity. These things happen when one has 5 blogs and 3 login identities .... I am also Quilldancer -- the traumatized.
Its okay. I realize the picture can't hurt me, but I still remember the shock of being grabbed by a huge, hairy stranger and tossed into the sand and rocks -- at the time I didn't think -- and it certainly didn't feel like -- he was trying to save me.
I figured it had to be a jellyfish. Never can see one without thinking of the scene in "Don't Tell Her it's Me" (one of my favorite movies because I LOVED the book "The Boyfriend School) where the heroine's friend serves her jellyfish salad and she gets very sick, in front of the man she will eventually fall in love with!
Nancy: Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
Their pretty, yet terrifying. Daniel and the boys used to torture them, but I never saw the fun in it. I d rather see them in an aquarium with the lights that make those glow.
Oh Yuck!
Here in Dk, those jellyfish are harmless and don't sting at all.
It's only the red ones with long threads that sting - is it the same by you?
Happy summer
Your LL
No LibertyBelle....the jelly fish in the picture will sting!---something fierce.
I miss the ocean, but not those little creatures. I was stung by a man-o-war in Hawaii a few times and it was miserable!
Great WW!
Looks pretty but carries a nasty sting I hear.
I thought it was a crystal paperweight at first glance.
Thanks for stopping in at my WW.
Take care,
Frances
mmmmmmm - chewy. NOT!
If you ever get stung by one, soak a soft tortilla shell in tequila and slap it on the wound...works for stinging nettle too!
and congrats on the new baby
That is an absolutely beautiful picture. Did you take it? WOW you got quite the comments on this one!
I love the photo -- man, this is a crowded place! :)
Hey that is pretty cool. They scare me though..lol I am always so affraid of stepping on one that washed ashore with them being all clear like that and stuff. Luckily I have never been stung by one...I really hope it stays that way :)
VERY COOL!!! :o)
Wow, cool photo. I think jelly fish are pretty neat, except for the whole stinging part!
NEAT pic! Icky to step on, but cool photo! Happy WW to you! Thanks for stopping by my place!
These things have always freaked me out.
They CANNOT be real.
