Before Hubby and I retired to Arizona, then to Texas coast, we lived 40+ years in Colorado. Raised our family there. Anyway, about 40 minutes' drive north and east of Denver, Colorado, there is this famous 'burg' of a 'town'. Called Severance, Colorado! Regionally famous for Rocky Mountain Oysters. There is really nothing there but a dance hall, called Bruce's Bar, and a railroad track---I don't ever recall a stop light even!! Yet, we made special trips there for the the oysters! They're soooooooo good, deep fried. And the beers and country bands and dance hall at Bruce's aren't bad either! But, know now---they're not the oysters from the SEA!!! (read further below, and you'll get the idea of what ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS ARE!!) Here are a few signs I had in my photo albums that I'm sharing with Saturday Photo Hunt------
This is the sign you'd see after you've driven off the Interstate a few miles
This, of course, is the lighted sign - like you'd miss the 'town'!!! DON'T BLINK OR YOU WILL!!! hehehehehe
This is the mural painted on the outside of Bruce's Bar!! If I recall correctly there are many more murals both inside and outside. Like I said, once you turn off the interstate highway, heading east towards the plains and ranch lands of Colorado---don't blink, you'll miss Severance!
rocky mountain oysters: bull testicles-
(to some, it's considered an aphrodisiac)
If you're still interested, this link even shows them deep fat fried -HISTORY OF THE OYSTER-

Ha! Great signs!
Thanks for stopping by mine :)
LOL! You almost got me... I was about to go into a "I thought you didn't LIKE oysters tirade!" ... and then I kept reading! LOL! I personally think I like my sea oysters better! But... having never tried YOURS I can't be sure! I am, however, pretty sure I will NOT be trying yours! ;)
What a great and informative story to go along with your nice shots.
Thanks for sharing. :-)
It's kind of far away from the water to be serving seafood. KIDDING.
I love signs from small areas...you can find some really odd stuff in those places. I guess they have to do something to make the town memorable.
My brother, who isn't much of a reader, LOVES oysters (the ocean kind). When he was visiting CO and saw rocky mountain oysters on the menu at a restaurant, he said YUM and ordered them. Imagine his surprise when he found out they WEREN'T oysters at all! Cracks me up every time I think about it ;-)
Thanks for stopping by!
Oh I've heard about the rocky mountain oysters but I don't think I could eat them. I'm not a big meat eater anyways, but I do like sea oysters. Thanks for sharing the pics and story - very interesting!!!
I've never tasted oyster.. not sure I want to, though that's not to say I wouldn't try them. We went to Colorado once on vacation, many many moons ago. Love to go back someday :=)
Thnx for visiting my blog today
Mandy
I don't think I could ever be hungry enough to eat that....
I've had one bite of one Rocky Mountain Oyster .. not sure if it was the taste or the idea, but I just couldn't eat it.
Great pics -- my signs are up, too.
Once I found out what Rocky Mountain Oysters were, I was, um.....yucked out? lol
Your photo's are awesome!
Rocky Mountain Oysters...I love 'em, too...only we called them "good meat" when I was growing up. That's what my parents told me they were lol!
Great signs :))
Mine's up!
(Laughing at the "good meat" comment.) Those are some great signs. I enjoyed this post.
Mine's up.
definitely great signs. TThanks for the well wishes and I'll definitely have pics unless we have camera malfunctions and other things.
Hahahahahhaaaaa.
Awesome choice for this week. Awesome choice. In my humble opinion...I think this ranks in the top 3 this week. But I could be biased living in the Springs. ;0]
Thanks for visiting me. Pam
Thanks for visiting me!
LOL at these signs. My husband's name is Bruce. Not sure how he would feel about having a rocky mountain oyster place named in his honor. (And incidentally I have eaten rocky mountain oysters before. I was young and a bit too naive to know what they actually were. I found out later.)
Yup, I'll be passing on those too.
Great signs.
lol at the signs! That just sounds nasty! heh. :) I played too. :)
I love these all! The oyster one is great. Love em personally.
Thanks for sharing these.
Mine is up now.
Cheers,
Carol
Sounds like a town with lots of ... spunk.
Hah hah hah... funniest signs of the week! Excellent choice for the theme!
Those signs are great :) - Especially the last one...Thank you for making me smile this morning.
I think i'd like this bar!
I'll read your Pirates review later, as I'm going to see it tonight. I've been avoiding all images!
Oh no. I had to have Daniel come see this. And I asked him if he remmbered the night he pssed out over the pool table.
Wish you were here so we could go back there. Those were the daze.
They castrate most of the bulls anyway; might as well make use of the leftovers.
I've always known what they are but never got up the nerve to try them.
I don't know why we don't see them on menus here; we certainly have enough cattle.

You don't know how I long for the good ol' days some days!!! 8 ball, and I call the shots!!! $5 bucks a game? roflmao.
I'll call you soon.
You know what, maybe it's because I grew up in OK but we never gave a second thought to eating calf fries, lamb fries or even turkey fries.
We just dipped them in cream gravy and gobbled them up!
Eww..Ouch..Argh..I just don't know what to say! LOL
Happy Saturday!!
Great signs and would LOVE some of those oysters!!!!
LOL! Love the last one!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Hmm. A delicacy I think I'll pass on. ;) Funny signs.
Thanks for stopping by to check out my signage today. =)
What great signs. I spent some of my growing up years in an itsy-bitsy little NW town of 100+ pop., but we didn't have them oysters there!
I'll pass on the oysters - of any kind! Eek.
Great signs - I especially love the first one :)
Thanks for visiting me...
Ya know.... that's just mean! Poor bulls....
