It's a day in blogland for memories. Since my bloggin' is mostly memories of days gone by or something I see out and about, I thought this is a good day to sit down and write about songs that bring to me memories.
While I at times visit blogs for Monday Memories the song from "The Way We Were" floats through my brain---the song written and recorded by Barbra Streisand. Beautiful lyrics, beautifully recorded and could set me into remembering so many things in life!!
I think about all the songs that really jog my memory book through the years----
Then, another song that is close to me. "Rock of Ages" a hymn my mother would be humming when she thought no one else was around, and how she'd sing this at church. Her voice would carry above and beyond others in the congregation! And when today, I hear even a mention of this, tears well up with my emotion of still missing my mother after all these years, and how I can envision her sitting with a piece of yard goods, sewing away, with her thimble and needle and thread....blissful with her god!!
Another one is more recent Michael Bolton's version of "How am I supposed to Live Without You?"---After I got the news of my father's passing, and driving out to his home to be with him and my brother---the song on the radio was this particular song. Listening to the words and thinking the same---driving at a speed on the city's streets that would be considered dangerous to myself and others---through tears!!! How I made it safely to my Dad's house, I'll never ever understand. But to this day I think of Dad when I hear this song. Tho, it's more of a love ballad, I still have to ask "How DO I live without him"?
One more is Mariah Carey's song "Hero". Our son was in the Marine Corps and it was during the Gulf War. This song made me cry again---I was worried sick. And he was and still is a HERO in my heart.
Yet another is "You are My Sunshine"....this one is a special one for my daughter. I would sing this to her often enough when she was a child - to make her happier in a hurtful situation like breakage of a toy or something....to make her feel better. I would sing it and sing it and sing it to her. Today, tears well up in HER eyes when I sing it or give her a reminder of "OUR SONG". So, it means a lot to me and her.
And last but not least....Eddy Arnold's version of "Welcome to My World". One night, many many moons ago while out on the dance floor with my soon to be hubby, the song was being played by the band---As we strolled around the waxy slick floor in a slow motion dance, I sang this to him in his ear!!! He still gets all choked up!!!
Love these memorable songs!!!
Do you have any in mind that reminds you of days gone by?
Share them with me?
Happy day all!!

Beautiful songs! You are my sunshine is always a great memory song. I have a lot! Mostly oldies. All summer long my brothers and sister & I would clean the house to make our parents happy so we could all go to the lake for the day. We had a Beach Boys CD we'd always rock~out to while we cleaned the house.
You have some wonderful songs on that list....
BTW: Years ago, I went into a very nice restaurant near where Mae West used to live and there she was! Sitting at a table towards the front of the place with another lady who looked very much like her and two strapping gentlemen--muscle men types, very very good looking and young...! It was quite something to see her--all dressed in white with a white hat, too! She was something else, that's for sure. A very smart woman with a great sense of humor!
What lovely songs! I have an especially tender spot for "You Are My Sunshine"- there's something there that just speaks of pure and simple joy.
Great Memories. ;-)
Love your songs, and many of them are memorable for me. You are my Sunshine: my son and I sang it when he was very small. He would croon it loudly and end with "Please don't take my sunshine
AAAAA - Waaaaaay". He is now 40 years old, and I remember singing that with him as if it was yesterday.
Cal Smith's - "Country Bumpkin" .
Tom T. Hall's - "Old Dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine".
Dottie West's - "Country Girl".
When I hear any of these songs I think of my Mom dancing around the house and singing these songs along with the radio.
Beautiful songs. Title of songs really relate to your memories. Are you Lonesome Tonight by the Lettermen made me cry when I use to hear during my younger days. It used to remind me of my first boyfriend whom I broke up with months before our wedding.
Thanks for dropping by.
Songs that bring back memories for me are: Never My Love, Cherish, If We Hold On Together, The Power of Love, and You Are My Sunshine.
Happy Tuesday!
Love it. Terrific post. Songs conjure up alot, don't they? Anything by Burl Ives reminds me so much of my dad, who is passed, while anything by Sinatra reminds me of my grandpa..they both used to sing these gentlemen's songs while I was grewing up, and to this day, my heart chokes when I hear something by them.
Music - it's my life. All the important things in life can be remembered so much easier/better/more richly with music.
Great list!!

Hi Wystful ~~ Great post, and it seems we all have favorite songs, and a lot went for You are my Sunshine. It is one of mine, along with Smoke Gets in your eyes, and All the Way by Frank Sinatra, Crazy in Love by Conway Twitty and lots of others. Thanks for
your commens, glad you enjoy.
Take care, Merle.
Well... I did used to sing You Are My Sunshine to all of my children... and also High Hopes (about that little old ant and the rubber tree plant!) ... both of those bring back great memories. Before Dennis and I got married I was singing Going To The Chapel for about 4 months straight - even though we got married in our back yard! LOL! And Dance With Me, by Adam Green also holds some really special memories for me. And then there's a song that I used to sing to my infants all the time... and toddler by request -- I don't know the name of it, or who did it - but here's the lyrics...
I once had a doll that
was all dressed in white
I called her my baby
and I held her tight
Her eyes were so blue and
her cheeks were so red
And I loved her most of all
each time she said
Mama ... Mama...
One little word she knew
Mama ... Mama...
To me, this means I love you.
I can't tell you how many hours I spent singing that song to my babies! And where I learned it was from my sister singing it to ME when I was little! That song holds tons of memories!
I love the songs you chose. For me, Amazing Grace makes me weep. It was my mother's favorite.
My parents had the local radio station play Daddy's Little Girl every year on my birthday.
