For those wanting to dine at my Friday Feast, it's the blog entry, below this one.
I had to come and make my usual comments on a movie we just viewed. Finally, the long awaited sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean opened at the theaters today. LONG awaited.
My opinion? An all around aventurous film, with most of the characters returning, even new ones....naturally! This time around, there is much much more "Will Turner". Which was a nice change of pace. Really. In order to not give one OUNCE of the script away to all who have plans to go see it, I'll try and keep every little detail out. Except for:
It opens with the darkened sea. Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner are being arrested for helping CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow escape from where we left off 3 years ago. That's all I will give away, other than what you can actually see in the 'trailers' on TV commercials and such. Promise.
Some of the new characters to expect is Davy Jones. Eerie, gooey Davy Jones. Will Turner's father, Bootstrap Bill Turner, a 'cute little' voodoo princess up the river, oodles of condemned humans that sacraficed their lives to the depths of Davy Jones locker---quite ominously done, and really cool if you're into this sort of thing. Several cannibals --which there is a funny segment where Jack plays a chieftan!! The 'language' made up/used is HILARIOUS!! Then, there is a special key that everyone is out after. More and more coming to life as the nearly 3 hour movie gets you involved.
But!!! I have only two things I felt were in need or doing over, out of sync. First--------it's much MUCH too full of different plots and it moves way too quickly and bounces around way too much. Secondly there IS a section, a little over two hours into the flick, that still makes me wanna ask the director-------a bit part of acting by Elizabeth Swann; where they are all out on the sand dunes looking for the coveted Dead Man's Chest---and well, her little 'speech' about watching the chest, it's just NOT in her character. Of course, it is supposed to be cute and funny to go with the theme of POTC, and Disney's ideals, but Elizabeth Swann came across as a sane, determined and strong individual in the first movie. In this one section, she is NOT in her character-and one line her father, Governor Swann said about his white whig "You don't think I wear this whig to keep my head warm?" --well, that too is a bit out of character for me. He came across as way too proper in the first movie to come up with this snide remark. At least I caught myself thinking that.
The Flying Dutchman is awesome, beautiful, beautiful scenery. Good story, but again, the plot was too busy.
I'd give it a 8.5 to 8.9 out of 10. (10 of course being the best). Don't get me wrong, I don't think anyone of POTC fan-clan will be disappointed at all. It's good, but a little off the 1st.
I think near the end they hinted what the last in the triolgy will be titled?!! (my guess maybe POTC - World's End?)
And at least we don't have to wait 3 years this time. DO we?

Arr Arr matey! I reckon I'm gonna have to rent the first one, and then go check out this 2nd one. I do like pirates and such... so I could probably survive THESE movies! ;)
We just returned from seeing Captain Jack and of course loved watching him parade around in his great character. As always I thought he was great Captain Jack!! I don't think anyone could ever play that part exactly like Johnny Depp does it. I agree on your comments though. Do you know when the next one comes out? The lines at the movie were awful. I got the last two tickets for the movie that we went too. Hopefully you got your Johnny Depp fix for a while! Smile!!
Thank you for posting the review. I think we might want to watch in the movie theater, but then again, who knows.:)
