The Mr. Linky's free auto-links has become a grueling nightmare! It was a great concept and worked very well! In the beginning. Then, as days went by---Blenza.com took forever to load on my blog entry (even with the cable connection that I have--I can't even begin to imagine what it's like for those that are using dial-up) and then all of a sudden it worked for just one day's worth. And now there is a payment expected too? ---when all it is is php? Get real!!! Granted, it's a fantastic widget. And I can understand you wanting payment because it's on your server!--But even so, with everyone using it all at once on certain days...even IF it was a platinum version (paid for)---it would still bog down the loading time. Now, there are ADVERTISEMENTS on the free widget too? That made me stop and say -- "Hey, I don't need this!" And it's NOT that I can't afford to pay for it---the idea of it being just coding php, well it astounds me. You should offer the code for free to all who wish to put it up on THEIR own servers so it won't take the bandwidth from YOU!!! Do a Google search, there are thousands of free scripts for the taking!!
And!!!---when you think about it, it really DOES make MY blog look kinda messy and unkempt. And it never lined up well in the table, when the commentor/link users names were extra long. (I'm a neat freak, probably to an obsession)
So, thanks for the great memory, but I refuse to use something that I feel you are using us for the one purpose of advertising and making money off of the ones who use it and was actually thankful for something that you were kind enough to share freely! And lastly, the extreme slow loading most of the time because of high use was beginning to be too much and too time consuming.
No more Mr. Linky for me blenza dot com!! And this is just a personal opinion, I am not trying to make it a big deal---it would be the same if I were dissatisfied with any free public service such as the Police Department treating us unfairly or I was dissatified with a service from the Post Office raising the price of stamps...I probably would state my opinion here also. I have nothing against Mr. Linky in ANY way.

I'm going through the most recent of my blog entries and taking it off right now.
I guess I have to disagree... but I "donated" willingly when he first offered it. I feel if someone offers me a great product that I enjoy using a little compensation their way is not a problem. So I haven't had the ads and I've been allowed to use it as much as I want... it is slow occassionally, but so is Blogger! LOL! I think you guys are being a little hard on Mr. Linky. Just my opinion.
I think that if you don't want it use it, don't use it. Your blog looks fantabulous either way.
Thanks for commenting on my blog, I am jealous that you are so close to the beach!
Melli: That really isn't my point. There were days that I tried to go through the links list and respond to others that left their link and it took forever to load -- it's NOT the payment that is the issue, it's the advertisements that are shoved in our faces (there are hundreds out there that can't afford to pay for the privilege) plus!--the extreme bogging time to load it!!!
And I'm not being hard on anyone.
I too am entitled to my opinion, as anyone is. If I'm not happy with a product used, free or otherwise, I discontinue use.
Thanks for the warning about Mr Linky. I thought about using it but declined, delayed. Good thing! I'm not one to sign up for the blog rolling thing either. Any knowledge of how well or not well this works?
I see you're blog isn't using that thing with links any more.
I havent been here in a while because it did slow it down for my time to get in here.
Thanks dear. I want to call you soon but with baseball for Johnny it is not to easy
I really agree Blogs are here to give others your views and opinions and I agree with you on autoliinks I want to continue with an ad free blog
You know, I noticed that too after I posted. Just didn't go back to take it down. But I agree with you.
I saw ads today on other linkies, today. Ick, I hate ads - but since I always stopped using it - it doesn't affect me :)
I stopped using it a while back because it was slow, I didn't have control of it (didn't the privligae of editing get taken away for free members?), couldn't remove the BIG box, etc.
I use to leave it up for the post (like today) then remove it a few days later. I thought it was good to let other hunters know who was playing without visiting the blogroll - but with the abuse of it - it was more trouble. I can't stand when someone spams their link.
Anyway, long story short, like you, I'm anal about how things look LOL
