Today when I was fully awake, I thought today would be a good time to express what I feel would be considered an American Hero. But what is a hero? Someone you admire, love or think accomplished something for the nation? There would be way too many heroes listed here. So, I dabbled around in my brain cells the thought of "hero".
Then, I thought I'd do a piece on someone in today's history, that perhaps would be considered a hero in any right.
And I found this:
On May 9, 1914 U.S.A.'s President, Woodrow Wilson, proclaimed- asking all Americans to express reverence to mothers. In celebration of Mother's day. And as history shows, carnations are the flower of choice to give mothers (history shows that Mr. Wilson wore white carnation in his lapel because it was his mother's favorite flower.) Today, carnations are the top 'seller' on Mother's day.
So, tho it's not officially mother's day until Sunday, I will proclaim my MOTHER a hero! She raised a tyrant of a child - in fact raised 5 children all together. She was out on the farm working, she had a husband that was working 'on the road' and not always home to help with chores. She worked hard and toiled from sun up to sun down. Yet, she always had smiles upon her lips. She'd cry when we hurt, she'd laugh at our antics, she'd cook, sew, clean, console, break up phyical battles between my two older brothers, she'd do laundry, she'd be a vet when needed, she'd garden, everything in the world that needed to be done for family --- she was there!
I've often wondered how she accomplished what she did in so little time in the day, but tho a mother's work is never done, she kept a healthy, and very stable, environment for all her family!
She was 37 when she bore me. I was the last of the 5 children. In the 40's, 37 was really too old to be having kids. As I grew older and realized life, I emboldened myself to ask her if she ever thought of aborting me. And she said "NO! Never...my love for life and family is a gift from above. I would never even considered it." And to this day -tho now in memory, our relationship was so close, we talked, joked and she told me things that she wouldn't dream of telling anyone else. I still have fond memories of my sweet hero...my mom (1911-1990)
This would be the ideal hero in most anyone's lives! We all have 'em. And 95% of the time, even if it's just for a short while in your life-I know some don't have the wonderful relationship with their mothers as I did, but they STILL are your mothers, there's no denying the fact, and they ARE heroes. (Heroines to be exact).
Who's your hero today?

That is lovely Wys. I'm always sad at Mother's Day ... I guess because I didn't have that kind of mother. I'm glad that you did though! I'm always happy for people who had GREAT mothers! :)
What a lovely tribute to your mom! I absolutely love the photo! What a beautiful child, and a beautiful woman, after reading your memories!
