We were going to have company from Arizona this weekend, but with unseen family emergencies she was unable to make it to Texas. So, I got to reminiscing about some of the beauty of the state of Arizona. Being retired, hubby and I loved to take day trips to some of the beautiful, pristine, areas of the southwest, and the Arizona's Chiricahua (pronounced Cheer i CAW wah) National Monuement was always one of my favorite places.
The picture above is looking off a cliff to the all inspiring monoliths of the valley (I call the formation directly in front-"kissing rocks" --look closely, you can see two 'faces' smooching. It isn't part of the park's list of named monoliths, but I like my 'discovery')! And the pillars of stone are not to be seen as in the picture here---they are ALL towering 100's of feet to the sky!!! It's only about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours from Tucson, and well worth the trip. HUGE rock formations surrounding the area - millions of years old. There are 'hundreds' of named formations!
Here are more pictures from a website.
Tho Grand Canyon is the most 'famous' of all parks in the state, you'd be awed by the beauty of the many not-so-well-known areas of the Southwest.
